Born in 1955 out of the enthusiasm of the Contrade (the city's historic districts), the event has kept its authentic character over time. The heart of the festival is kite-building, carried out with passion, ingenuity and craftsmanship according to a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
The stars of the event are Urbino's ten Contrade, spread between the historic centre and the outskirts. For months, members of each Contrada design and build the kites that will take flight during the festival, turning the competition into an occasion for meeting, collaboration and pride for the whole city.
Every kite tells a story, every Contrada holds an identity, every edition renews a tradition that keeps colouring Urbino's sky and moving entire generations.

The Kite Festival is one of Urbino's oldest and best-loved events, a gathering that for over sixty years has celebrated creativity, tradition and community spirit.
