THE CONTRADE

The Kite Festival was born from the Contrade and is a tradition that has united the people of Urbino of all ages for generations. Building and flying kites is much more than a game: it's a collective ritual that hands down creativity, craftsmanship and a sense of belonging.

There are ten Contrade, spread between Urbino's historic centre and outskirts. Each represents a district of the city, with its own colours, symbols and strong identity, giving rise to a friendly competition that every year makes the Kite Festival a moment of encounter, sharing and pride for the whole community.
